Micro or Mini Cassettes
Reel to Reel Audio
Transfer to Digital
We convert audio recordings on magnetic tape to high quality digital audio in CD quality 16 bit, 44.1 kHz WAV / MP3 formats. The files are output to a USB flash drive or via a digital download link.
We first capture the entire contents of each tape or reel, and then review the audio digitally for quality assurance and to edit blank or static space. We will also accommodate special editing requests.
We custom title each transferred audio filename with date or subject descriptions on a tape case or a numbering system to correlate the tapes with the digital audio files.
Audio Transfer Questions
What audio formats do you digitize?
We convert: standard compact audio cassettes; DAT tapes; micro and mini cassettes; 1/4″ reel to reel magnetic tape; and 33, 45, and 78 RPM records.
What is the digital file format you convert to?
We transfer audio to digital CD quality 16 bit, 44.1 kHz WAV, and MP3 formats.
How will my audio transfers be organized?
We will custom title each digital file with subject info seen on the original, or if not applicable, we will assign a number to use in the digital file to correlate with the original source. Each cassette or record side will be its own file, so we will typically output 2 files per tape unless one side is blank.
What if a tape is blank? Do you still charge for it?
We have a $10 minimum per tape charge if a tape is discovered to be blank.
Can you edit my digital audio files to remove parts I don’t want?
We can custom edit your digital audio files by special request with instructions you provide.
How many cassettes can be put on a CD?
Creating an audio CD is limited to 80 minutes per disc, so typically only 1 tape can be converted to a single CD. In the case of a tape that exceeds 80 minutes, it would need to be split into 2 CDs. Unless you have a specific need to listen to audio in a standard CD player or CD-ROM only, we recommend a USB flash drive which can contain a much greater amount of audio on a single drive and playable on any device with a USB port. We also offer online Dropbox download of audio transfers for a non-tangible output option.
Can you transfer 8 track tapes to digital?
We do not convert 8 track tapes. Luckily, most 8 track tapes were commercial audio recordings that can be found on streaming services today.
