What
video tape formats do you transfer to DVD?
VHS, SVHS, VHS-C, Video8,
Hi8, Digital8 and MiniDV tape formats. |
Will
the DVD play on my DVD player for my TV and the computer?
DVD-R Media is
used, which is the most widely compatible format. About 98% of
all DVD players manufactured since 2002 are compatible with DVD-R
video. The DVD will also play in a computer as long as you are
using a DVD-Rom drive. |
What
about the MPEG2 video only. Will that play on my TV?
No, the MPEG2 only
option is a stand alone video file on a Data DVD-R which is not
authored and rendered to play on a standard DVD player. The video
can be viewed, edited, etc. with a computer and the proper hardware
and software. |
How
much video will fit on one DVD? Up
to 2 hours for standard DVD quality encoding or 1 hour for the
highest quality. |
Will
transferring to DVD improve the quality of the video?
To a certain extent,
but the digital video quality will depend on the condition of
the source tape (age, format, recording speed used, overall wear).
During the transfer process we use time
base correction hardware to help reduce signal noise and stability
for a cleaner output. Once digital, your video can be viewed
over and over again without any further degradation to the tape.
In addition, the digital file can be edited and copies can be
made with no quality loss. |
Can
I add more than one tape to a DVD? Yes,
you may add more than one tape to a DVD to total up to 2 hours.
Each tape will be represented with its own thumbnail on the main
menu, titled with the description you provide. This is a good
way to combine shorter tapes into an easy to view digital format.
|
What
if I have more than 2 hours of video on a VHS tape I want transferred?
The
first 2 hours will be transferred to one DVD and the remainder
will be transferred to a new DVD at the standard transfer rate
up to 1 or 2 hours. |
Do
I get my original videotapes back?
Yes. |
What
type of DVDs to you use? We
use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media, which is widely considered the most
reliable and compatible brand. |
Can
you transfer a copyrighted tape, like a movie I have on VHS?
No, we only transfer
home movie videos. Also, it is likely you would be able to purchase
a DVD version of your copyrighted tape for less cost than we could
transfer it, and with higher quality too. |
Can
I supply you with an external hard drive to transfer my tapes
to, rather than DVDs? Yes,
this is a good option if you have many tapes to digitize and wish
to have a digital library for computer viewing and/or editing.
However, we recommend you have a secondary backup source as a
precaution, either on discs or a second hard drive. |
Can
you transfer to AVI instead of MPEG2? Yes,
but you must supply an external hard drive to transfer the video
to due to the file size. Each 5 minutes of video is about 1gb
of data, or about 12gb per hour of video. |
Can
I email you a picture to use as the background for the menu?
Yes,
if you have a particular picture your want to use as your menu
background, you can email it to info@memoriesrenewed.com
|
How
should I prepare my videotapes? If
possible, provide a description of the content for each tape.
The digital file name and DVD will be titled with the description.
If tapes are blank and you don't know for sure what is on them,
we will number each tape and digital file to match. If you want
multiple shorter tapes combined on one DVD, group them together
either in plastic bags or rubber bands. |
What
is your turn around time for video transfer?
Turn
around depends on the number of tapes you have to transfer and
our workload at the time, but typically within 1-2 weeks. Please
contact us for a current turn around
estimate. |
