Digital ICE® Technology is used Standard in Processing for Color Slides and Negatives.
DIGITAL ICE® infrared technology aids in the removal of surface defects, such as dust and scratches. It differentiates itself from software-only solutions because it does not soften, blur or otherwise alter any underlying details or composition of the original image. Instead, the patented DIGITAL ICE® technology works from within the scanner, during the scanning process, to provide a clear, authentic base image that improves the original image.
You can expect excellent quality results. We use industry standard

Customized Subject Groupings
You may prepare your slides in whatever order you want and in the original packaging, including carousels, magazines, boxes, etc. Any separate subject groupings will be placed in a folder by that name on the image disc to help keep you organized. If your slides are not in any particular order now, you may find it easier to organize the digital images after scanning rather than before scanning.
Scanning Resolution

Scanning Resolution refers to the depth of pixel data captured from an image. The higher the resolution, the more pixel data is captured, resulting in a larger and more detailed image. This is important when making prints, cropping, or zooming in. The choice of resolution ultimately depends on how the images will be used. Keep in mind that higher resolution also yields a larger digital image size, taking up more storage capacity.

Standard Resolution - Great for Multi-Media uses and Standard Size Prints
Medium Resolution - Better for Prints up to 8"x10" and more Detail when Magnified
High Resolution - Best for Enlargements, Cropping, or Extensive Editing

Benefits of Transferring your Slides to Digital Format
Bring Past Memories to New Life and Preserve for Future Generations
We are living in a digital age. Transferring slides to digital format not only opens up many new possibilities for viewing, but allows you to back up and protect your memories from loss due to fire, flood, or any other natural disaster.
Make Prints at Home or any Photo Lab
The jpeg images you will receive are Photoshop enhanced and print ready. The standard scanning resolution is suitable for standard size prints and the high resolution is best for printing up to 8" x 10" or larger, depending on the film format.
Computer, Email, Internet, and other Multi-Media uses
You will receive a set of digital images downsized for general multi-media purposes. This is designed for faster viewing and more email friendly since the file sizes are reduced to about 100k. The full size resolution set is best for printing and other higher resolution uses.
Transfer to a Memory card and view on a Digital Photo Frame
This is becoming a popular way to enjoy your photo memories casually in your home. Imagine having decades of photos randomly cycling through in a frame on a table or mantle. It serves as a great conversation piece to relive memories with family and friends.
Online Photo Gallery
This is a great way to easily share pictures with family and friends anywhere. Your gallery is designed specifically to your content with albums titled for multiple subjects. A gallery also serves as an additional back up of your images that are hosted on our servers. This is a great way to organize your photos to be accessible from any computer connected to the internet.

Slide Scanning FAQ
I have a large collection of slides I would like to have digitized. Where should I start?
Your slides may or not be organized right now. One option is to send everything you have and once your slides are all digital images on a disc, you will be able to create folders and drag and drop images into various subjects. If your slides are already organized, you may send them in groupings with a title name for each grouping. When they are scanned, a folder will be made with the title name and all images will be put into that folder on the disc. If they are in carousels or magazines, you can send them in their original container and we will remove and replace them for no additional charge. If you have a large collection, many customers have chosen to organize and send them in batches to have scanned.
I live in the Twin Cities. Can I drop off and pick up my project rather than mailing?
Yes, by appointment. We are located in Fridley on the north side of Minneapolis. Call Chris @ 763-571-4713 or email info@memoriesrenewed.com
How do I know what scanning resolution I should choose?
The choice of resolution depends on what you will be using the digital images for. The higher the resolution, the larger and more detailed the image will be, but the highest isn't always necessary or the best option. If you want to print quality enlargements or if you will be doing any significant cropping, you may want to choose the higher resolution to achieve the most pixel detail. If you will be using the images mainly for computer use, without printing enlargements, the standard resolution will be sufficient.
Why is there a price difference between the scanning resolution options?
Two reasons - time and space. A higher resolution image takes more time to scan and the file size is also larger and takes up more storage space.

Does it cost extra for the CD or DVD storage?
The transfer of your image scans to CD or DVD is included in the per image pricing. Additional copies are $5 per disc.
How many slides will fit on a CD or DVD?
The answer is that it varies depending on the slide format and the scanning resolution used. As a general rule, less than 200 will fit on a CD and several hundred can fit on a DVD.
What is the difference between a CD and a DVD?
Both a CD and a DVD can be used for data storage with the only difference being the storage size of the disc. A CD will hold up to 700MB of data, while a DVD holds 4.7GB. In order to access the images from a DVD on a computer, you will need to have a DVD-Rom drive in your computer.
What file format will my scanned pictures be in?
You may choose JPEG or TIFF format. JPEG is standard in the scanning pricing and is great for most uses. TIFF is an uncompressed format and is an additional 15¢ per image due to the increased file size. To read more on the differences between the two, click here.
Do I get my slides back?
Yes, and in the same groupings you sent them in.
Do I need to count the exact number of slides before sending them to you?
No, there is no need to do so. Prepayment for scanning is not required. The number of images and your invoice will be totalled once all work is completed.
I have been considering buying a scanner myself to scan my slides. Why should I consider having you do the work instead?
There are consumer grade scanners on the market for you to do the work yourself, but before tackling a preservation project as important as this, you should consider the cost of equipment vs. quality output. Also, don't underestimate the time involved to do it yourself. It is likely it would be more cost effective to have the work done professionally. We use professional grade hardware and software and have perfected an efficient process to digitize your film at a fraction of the time and cost it may take to do it on your own.
