Subject Groupings
If
you prepare your photos in labeled subject groupings, they will
be scanned and stored on the disc organized by subject folders.
If your photos are not in any particular order now, you may find
it easier to organize the digital images after scanning rather
than before scanning. The choice is up to you. |

Bring
Past Memories to New Life and Preserve for Future Generations

or any other natural disaster. |
|
Make Prints at Home or any Photo Lab
The jpeg images
you will receive are Photoshop enhanced and print ready. The
standard scanning resolution is suitable for standard size prints
and the high resolution is best for printing up to 8" x
10" or larger, depending on the original photo size. |

Computer, Email, Internet, and other Multi-Media uses
You
will receive a set of digital images downsized for general multi-media
purposes. This is designed for faster viewing and more email
friendly since the file sizes are reduced to about 100k. Also
best suited for applications such as slideshows or powerpoint
viewing. |

Scanning FAQ |
I
have a large collection of photos I would like to have digitized.
Where should I start?
Your photos may or not be organized right now. One option is to
send all of your photos and once your photos are all digital images
on a disc, you will be able to create folders and drag and drop
images into various subjects. That is often easier than attempting
to sort through the prints beforehand. If your photos are already
organized, you may send them in groupings with a title name for
each grouping. When they are scanned, a folder will be made with
the title name and all photos will be put into that folder on
the disc. If you have a large collection, many customers have
chosen to organize and send them in batches to have scanned. |
I
live in the Twin Cities. Can I drop off and pick up my project
rather than mailing?
Yes, by appointment. We are located in Fridley on the north side
of Minneapolis. Call Chris @ 763-571-4713 or email info@memoriesrenewed.com
|
Why
is there a price difference between the scanning resolution options?
Two reasons - time and space. A higher resolution image takes
more time to scan and the file size is also larger and takes up
more storage space. |
What
file format will my scanned pictures be in?
You may choose JPEG or TIFF format. JPEG is standard in the scanning
pricing and is great for most uses. TIFF is an uncompressed format
and is an additional 15¢
per
image due to the increased file size. To read more on the differences
between the two, click here.
|
Does
it cost extra for the CD or DVD storage?
The transfer of your image scans to CD or DVD is included in the
per image pricing. Additional copies are $5 per disc. |
How
many photos will fit on a CD or DVD?
This varies depending on the photo sizes and the scanning resolution
used. As a general rule, less than 500 will fit on a CD and several
hundred can fit on a DVD. |
What
is the difference between a CD and a DVD?
Both a CD and a DVD can be used for data storage with the only
difference being the storage size of the disc. A CD will hold
up to 700MB of data, while a DVD holds 4.7GB. In order to access
the images from a DVD on a computer, you will need to have a DVD-Rom
drive in your computer. |
Do
I need to count the exact number of photos before sending them
to you?
No, there is no need to do so. Prepayment for scanning is not
required. The number of images and your invoice will be totalled
once all work is completed. |
Do
I get my photos back?
Yes, and in the same groupings you sent them in. |
I
have been considering buying a scanner myself to scan my photos.
Why should I consider having you do the work instead?
There are consumer grade scanners on the market for you to do
the work yourself, but before tackling a preservation project
as important as this, you should consider the cost of equipment
vs. quality output. Also, don't underestimate the time involved
to do it yourself. It is likely it would be more cost effective
to have the work done professionally. We use professional grade
hardware and software and have perfected an efficient process
to digitize your photos at a fraction of the time and cost it
may take to do it on your own. |
